Founded by Thomas and Chelsea, our team is an international and multidisciplinary group of researchers, legal professionals, and industry practitioners with deep expertise in China’s economic, regulatory, and institutional landscape. With backgrounds spanning multiple countries, academic institutions, and industries, we combine global perspectives with hands-on experience in cross-border business, investment, legal practice, and policy environments to deliver well-rounded, practical, and research-driven solutions.
Dr. Thomas holds a PhD in Applied Economics from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and currently serves as an Assistant Professor at a reputable Chinese university. His background combines academic research with practical experience in capital markets, venture capital, and blockchain-related ventures.
His research focuses on cross-border venture capital, geopolitical sentiment, financial markets, and institutional factors influencing investment behaviour in China and internationally. He has published in SSCI-indexed journals, including Venture Capital and Applied Economics, and is actively working on projects examining geopolitical risk and venture capital dynamics during global shocks.
Alongside his academic work, Dr. Thomas has been engaged with venture capital funds and blockchain startups since 2021, contributing to research, analysis, and industry collaboration. Earlier in his career, he worked in debt capital markets research in the City of London, gaining exposure to global financial markets and corporate financing activity.
He has led and participated in funded research projects supported by national and university research grants focused on cross-border investment and geopolitical sentiment. He regularly presents at international academic conferences and serves as a peer reviewer for economics journals.
Having lived and worked across China and Asia for many years, Dr. Thomas has built a strong network of academic, industry, and investment contacts, enabling China Consulting Group to connect research insight with organisations and individuals operating in or engaging with China. Fluent in English, Chinese, German, and Polish, with basic proficiency in Malay, he contributes to the firm’s work through data-driven analysis, market insight, and applied understanding of China’s investment and institutional environment.
Chelsea is a legal researcher and advisor specialising in law and finance, innovation regulation, and China’s corporate and regulatory environment. She is currently a PhD candidate in Law at Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s Koguan Law School, with research interests in empirical legal research, law and innovation, and financial regulation.
She received her Master of Law from Tsinghua University School of Law, focusing on company and business law, and was selected for a highly competitive exchange programme at UCLA School of Law. Her academic excellence has been recognised through national scholarships, including the Baker McKenzie & FenXun Joint Scholarship and the Zhong Lun Law Firm Scholarship. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree with first-class honours.
Chelsea has published in SSCI-indexed journals and is actively involved in nationally funded research projects focused on legal research related to innovation, finance, and China’s regulatory environment.
Professionally, she serves as Head of Legal & Operations at a Singapore-based technology firm and as Legal Counsel to a venture capital platform, where she leads contract negotiations, compliance, due diligence, and cross-border transactions. Her previous experience includes legal and policy work at Tsinghua University’s International Innovation Centre and training at Baker McKenzie’s banking, finance, and M&A teams.
She is a certified Chinese legal professional and securities specialist, combining strong academic training with real-world legal practice to support complex China-related business and investment strategies.
